Eau de Parfum, Toilette and Cologne. What is the difference and which is best?

Great chance you are aware of the existence of the different types of fragrance. But what is actually the difference between Eau de Parfum, Toilette and Cologne? Why is the one more expensive than the other? And which one lasts the longest?

To summarise; they are all quite the same, but they differ in the concentration of perfume oil. In that sense, Eau the Parfum is the most powerful and lasts the longest. However, it is also the most expensive option but it could be a great investment if you are looking for a scents that lasts all day long.

Eau de Cologne

The word "cologne" is the oldest term used for perfume. It was used to indicate a blending of alcohol, water and perfume oils that were very light and masculine scents. Today, this is still the case as an eau de cologne contains only 2 to 5% percent perfume oils. This makes it a very light and refreshing scent that lasts for about 2 hours.

Eau de Toilette

This gives a light and refreshing touch to your appearance. It is relatively cheap, you can use it multiple times per day and on any part of your body. Eau de Toilette contains between 5 and 10% percent perfume oil and it lasts for about 3-4 hours.

Eau de Parfum

Historically seen, this is the most universal and best term to indicate your fragrance. It contains 10 to 20 percent perfume oil and is despite the higher price an investment worth making. It lasts for about 5 to 8 hours, depending on the specific perfume. You only have to spray your neck and wrist to make a memorable impression.

Make sure you check the concentration of the perfume oil before purchasing a cologne. One is no better than the other. But you can expect to pay more for an Eau de Parfum fragrance compared to an Eau de Toilette of Eau de Cologne.
